doctors want to kill this woman

In what is perhaps the most shocking announcement made in some time
regarding the diet and health industry, a lady doctor has just
released what some authorities are calling the world's "Top Secret Fat
Loss Secret!"
The woman doctor, whose name is Dr Suzanne Gudakunst, has really upset
the major food & drug industries, as well as weight loss manufactured
food companies.
In the past 6 years she has worked largely in secret developing what
may be the "cure" for obesity -- and testing this first on herself,
and then on a select group of volunteer patients who anxiously awaited
salvation from the harmful effects of suffering "the battle of bulge."
http://bit.ly/cMjaeq
So valuable her SHOCKING findings and PROVEN results are, that she's
now just released her simple and easy-to-do system under the aptly
titled: "Top Secret Fat Loss Secret!"
And her timing couldn't be better! ...
- Since recent studies reveal obesity has now reached epidemic
proportions, her secret may well prove a major life-saver to the
now more than 40% of Americans alone who are labeled
"obese!"

- Children are now considered "fatter than ever" by most experts,
and Dr Suzanne's remedy may prove a preventative in the fight
against later-in-life developed diabetes when these same
children grow into adults!
And what may be the BIGGEST "Shock" of all is this horrifying fact:
=> Dr Suzanne has received death threats for simply making
her secret fat loss solution available to the general public
-
and from what law enforcement investigators believe may
be insiders in the weight-loss/diet food manufacturing and
weight-loss drug treatment industries!
One federal law enforcement official (who insists on remaining
nameless) said in confidence:
"It's no shock to us at the [agency name withheld for security
purposes] that this lady doc has received so many threats on
her life as food and drug companies stand to lose potentially
billions of dollars by the release of her new breakthrough
secret for losing weight."
But now with the release of this breakthrough weight and fat loss
revelation, people who previously struggled so very hard with little
or any success in the fight against the "extra pounds" now have a VAST
& POWERFUL WEAPON on their side for a well-deserved change!
When asked if she feared retaliation from pharmaceutical and weight-
loss food manufacturers, she said almost too hopefully...
"I wish they would do so especially in public because to get
fired upon for this would demonstrate more than ever that I
must have done something very, very right ... as anyone
with common sense would see that the only reason they are
in business in the first place is because being overweight as
a population only serves to make them even richer ... and
what I've done is going to free masses of people from being
slaves to them for good! - even many millions."
So despite the continued threats, Dr Suzanne is more on the ball and
out to ruffle as many feathers as she can with her New "TOP SECRET Fat
Loss Secret!"
To be sure the good gal-doctor isn't going this alone! Nope. She's got
some very BIG heavy-hitters on her side!
Joined in unison by some of the biggest names in modern medicine from
the likes of Johns Hopkins, Harvard Medical, and a good number of the
other leading world-recognized hospitals and higher-learning
institutions, Dr Suzanne moves rapidly forward in her personal "war"
on ugly, unwanted fat and for the pursuit of better and eventually
optimal health for all!
Additionally, you should know that nothing about her secret fat loss
cure is difficult or hard to do.
What you may even find strangely surprising about her secret is the
fact that it can by done by anyone effortlessly! (You'll have to see
it for yourself to understand how this is actually possible!)
So if you are someone who has been losing the fight against ugly fat
and unwanted extra inches (that eventually without a doubt will
shorten your life and lower the quality of it), then this is exactly
what the good lady-doctor ordered!
Just grab the good doctor's secret for yourself at:
http://bit.ly/cMjaeq

But I feel it only fair to warn you that "the rush" is so vehemently
on, that if you hesitate you may find that tomorrow when you get there
(the link just above) the credit card-taking process might be so
overburdened that you can't order at all ... (So it might be a good
idea that you hurry on over there NOW rather than risk waiting till
later and losing out for good!)
Plus, it's my understanding that she knocks off nearly HALF the price
just for people getting over there within 24-48 hours!
So if I were you I'd not take any chances because although credit card
processing may still be working by the time you get there, the price
may nearly DOUBLE just 2 days from now (and then you'll kick yourself
saying "Dad-gummit! I knew I should have grabbed that when I had the
chance!" ... so don't let this happen to you - grab it NOW!)
Also keep this in mind...
-----------------------------------
How many times have you seen sudden "breakthroughs" of such great
controversy potentially come along and cause a woman doctor to
actually get death threats for her secret 'know-how?' -- You're
right ... very, very few.
So don't overlook this email as it may very well prove to be one of
the most influential and important ones you've ever received...

[car-pga] Mazes and Monsters: The RPG

(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)

File this under "It was only a matter of time": Rory at Blog of
Holding (http://blogofholding.com) is convinced that the novel and
made-for-TV movie "Mazes and Monsters" were based on an actual RPG of
the same name. Unable to locate a copy, he has decided to create a
retro-clone, based on any information that can be gleaned from
watching the movie:

"It's been suggested that there never was a M&M game - that the Mazes
and Monsters movie is an excoriating criticism of a fictionalized
version of D&D. If so, it is a dismal failure, because as we can see
from the movie, MAZES AND MONSTERS IS NOTHING LIKE DUNGEONS AND
DRAGONS. Therefore, unless we are to assume that Rona Jaffe and
everyone involved in the movie are total idiots who didn't bother to
do the most trivial speck of research, we must assume that the movie
is an excoriating criticism of a real game called Mazes and Monsters
that I have just never heard of."

Rory is doing quite a thorough job of recreating the true "Mazes and
Monsters" experience. I can't wait for the PDF, so I can get a print
copy to put on the shelf next to Dark Dungeons! (http://
www.theescapist.com/blog/tiki-view_blog_post.php?blogId=5&postId=200)

[car-pga] The Creativity Crisis

This article brings up a worrying trend: that the average Creativity
Quotient (CQ) is trending downward in America.

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/10/the-creativity-crisis.html

It's probably obvious to all of us that role-playing games, and really
any form of play, boosts creativity. The article summarily dismisses
video games as contributing to creativity:

"One likely culprit is the number of hours kids now spend in front of
the TV and playing videogames rather than engaging in creative
activities."

And yet endorses role-play:

"In early childhood, distinct types of free play are associated with
high creativity. Preschoolers who spend more time in role-play (acting
out characters) have higher measures of creativity: voicing someone
else's point of view helps develop their ability to analyze situations
from different perspectives. When playing alone, highly creative first
graders may act out strong negative emotions: they'll be angry,
hostile, anguished. The hypothesis is that play is a safe harbor to
work through forbidden thoughts and emotions.

In middle childhood, kids sometimes create paracosms—fantasies of
entire alternative worlds. Kids revisit their paracosms repeatedly,
sometimes for months, and even create languages spoken there. This
type of play peaks at age 9 or 10, and it's a very strong sign of
future creativity. A Michigan State University study of MacArthur
"genius award" winners found a remarkably high rate of paracosm
creation in their childhoods."

This reinforces more than ever the importance of role-playing games in
a child's development. I look forward to the day that our school
systems recognize efforts like David Millians as critical to our
children's future.

Is this too good to be true?

Is this for real?
Is Rapid Mass Traffic for real?
Too good to be true?

Rapid Mass Traffic? Too good to be true ... ?
Have you been stung in the past?
Did you get stung lately?
We've all been stung...

Since the official launch of Rapid Mass Traffic tens of thousands
of people have JUMPED at the opportunity, head first and began
their journey to exploit a BRAND NEW traffic getting evolution.

So take my word for it when I say people are buzzed up about
this new system ... with so many excited emails and happy
customers pouring in with feedback.

This is NOTHING like you've ever witnessed before ...

If you haven't had the chance to see what all the fuss is about,
you should *drop* everything and go take a look right now...

= = > > http://bit.ly/axvq3P

But for some, this seems a little unreal. Almost too good to be
true.

And I can totally understand that. After all, there's a lot of
noise in this industry about all the different ways to make money
online, and how to get more sales, more traffic ... and on and
on.

There is though some useful training material out there, the
truth is, a lot of the claims made are total BS with no proof to
back them up with.

We've all seen it and most of us have been stung too.

After a while, these messages start to become background noise
... and if you have been burned in the past (like we all have)
then any *wild* claims may seem hard to believe today.

It's cool, and I don't blame you being skeptical. Being
precautious is a GOOD thing in business, and in life in general.

But sooner or later, we all have to make choices. Choices which
we know will move us forward and help us break away from our
current endless 'drama' we call a life.

Choices which will allow you to break f.ree from your current
situation, whether it's frustration, having no time, being
constantly broke ... or whatever else.

The bottom line is, despite the feeling of risk, you have to
actually MAKE that choice if you ever want to see changes.

Listen... the truth is, everything has some kind of risk
attached to it so Latif is promising you this...

... if you try Rapid Mass Traffic and don't feel completely
blown away with what you discover inside, then he will let you
have it for F.REE.

Yes, he is that confident as you'll be getting results from this
'underground' system like never before.

And the only way he can help you move out of your current
situation of losing time, money and getting more and more
frustrated with your online business, is by giving you a chance
to at least test drive Rapid Mass Traffic for a FULL 60 days:

= = > > http://bit.ly/axvq3P

This will give you plenty of time to decide whether this is
right for you or not. And if you're a serious, SERIOUS traffic
getter then the chances are you will never return to all those
old and worn out methods you've been using in the past to
generate traffic and money with.

So whatever reason you have for making money online, you need to
make a choice.

Are you going to continue struggling with the masses, paying
over the odds for Adword ads, writing articles till your fingers
go numb and your eye sight ending up blurry? I know what that
feels like.

Or are you going to rest your future on SEO, where Google
changes the rules more often than most people have hot dinners
each week?

That's a risk I'd rather not take personally ... surely you
must feel the same?

But here's what I can say for sure...

Rapid Mass Traffic is REAL, and it WORKS. Yes, it's kinda crazy
when one talks about getting 1 million visitors a month or even
100,000 visitors per day. Making $1.2 million or even $184,195 in
a month... it does sound too good to be true...

... but people thought the traffic you could get from Google was
crazy a few years ago too (they ended up making a lot of money
UNTIL Google changed the rules).

Now just because it seems crazy, and off the wall, and so
amazing ... doesn't mean it isn't true. So why not test drive
Rapid Mass Traffic for yourself so that YOU can be the real judge
and jury on it?

If you don't at LEAST triple your current traffic levels, Latif
will buy it back off you and let you keep the entire system for
f.ree and I'll go eat my hat whilst I'm at it.

Heck, even if you change your mind, you don't have to pay a
penny for trying it out.

So with all the risk removed, here's your golden chance to get
serious amounts of targeted traffic, and start making BIG money
online once and for all...

[car-pga] Read an RPG Book in Public Week is coming soon!

(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)<p>

The next Read an RPG Book in Public Week will be here before you know
it. It begins on Sunday July 25th, and runs until Saturday the 31st.

Read an RPG Book in Public Week (RaRPGBiPW for short) is a thrice-
yearly event that encourages roleplayers to read their favorite RPG
books in public places, to make the hobby more visible, generate
interest, and attract new (and lapsed) participants. For more
information on the event and how to get involved, visit the
theescapist.com/readrpgsinpublic

The last RaRPGBiPW was a huge success, much moreso that I could have
imagined. The event was covered by several popular sites, including
Wired GeekDad, Boing Boing, Geeks are Sexy, Purple Pawn, MAKE
Magazine, Places to Go People to Be, and many others. The official
page was translated into French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, to
make the event more accessible to roleplayers around the world.

So take an RPG book with you next week, read it in public, and see
where it takes you!

[car-pga] Three brief RPG advocacy stories

(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)<p>

Here are three brief RPG advocacy stories that made their way to my
inbox recently:

- A digital art gallery in New York City is currently featuring an
exhibit of some of the works of Ottowa artist Mike Turney, who creates
maps for tabletop fantasy roleplaying games:

"At an exhibit Friday, July 16, to Thursday, July 29, in New York
City, the SoHo Gallery of Digital Art will include maps Tumey created
for fantasy roleplaying board games. A total of about 48 fantasy game
maps will be on display on large, flat screen televisions. Tumey plans
to attend the exhibit.

"I've never had my work on display like this before," Tumey noted.

Read the full article here - http://mywebtimes.com/archives/ottawa/display.php?id=408768

- Here's an RPG-positive piece about a game store in Alaska - Kitsap
board, card gamers find local havens for imaginative play:

"Instead of sitting in front of a television or PC monitor, Larsen
said the endless supply of the imagination is why he enjoys role-
playing games. On Fridays, he typically stays at Discordia from 6 p.m.
to midnight.

"There's just nothing like sitting at a table with a group of friends,
mocking them," Larsen said jokingly as he glanced around the table at
his fellow gamers.

Besides mocking friends, Boutet said playing table-top games is also a
good way to build communication skills. Lonely player stereotypes are
reinforced with video games more than table-top games, and things such
as X-Box Live, which is played over the internet but is not the same
as face-to-face interaction.

Read the full article here - http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/kitsap/nkh/entertainment/98363239.html

- Back in April, "Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks" author Ethan
Gilsdorf wrote an excellent article for the Christian Science Monitor
on the benefits of tabletop RPGs, and that same piece is now being
carried by Psychology Today, with a new title: "Real-Life
Roleplaying."

[car-pga] "Literary LARP" camps becoming popular

(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)

The New York Times just published a nifty article on role-playing
literary camps, which they claim are "sprouting up around the
nation." The article focuses on one particular camp in Brooklyn that
is based around the very popular Percy Jackson books:

"Children have always sought to act out elements of their favorite
books, becoming part of the worlds that the works create. Now,
organized role-playing literary camps, like the weeklong Camp Half-
Blood in Brooklyn, are sprouting up around the nation.

Some take their inspiration from the Harry Potter books, like the
wizardry camp run by the Brandywine Learning Center in Chester
Springs, Pa., which simulates the experience of attending Hogwarts,
the school from the novels.

Bookstores have joined in, organizing day camps structured around
children's books, like "The Double-Daring Book for Girls" and the
"Ranger's Apprentice" series. But the biggest buzz has recently been
around Camp Half-Blood, based on the popular "Percy Jackson and the
Olympians" series."

The admission is a bit steep ($375 for a week-long camp), but the
benefits are priceless - instilling a love of reading and discovery,
building friendships, and honing social and problem solving skills. It
would be great to see a lot more bookstores, libraries, and schools
get involved in literary LARP camps like these, and possibly make it
accessible to everyone.

Re: [car-pga] Dark Dungeons: The RPG

There is also another game released by Hex Games titled "Waxman's Warriors" that is a humorous take on the writings of Chick.

On Thu, Jul 15, 2010 at 9:14 AM, WJ Walton <rpgadvocate@gmail.com> wrote:
(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)

Around three years ago, I was offered the opportunity to write the
afterword for an RPG in development called Darkest Dungeons. It was a
modern day horror RPG based on the fantasy world created by Jack Chick
in that infamous anti-D&D tract - a world where innocent teens are
lured into devilish behavior by sinister game masters. Players played
the roles of the teens in the story, who were trying to avoid insanity
and suicide, as well as their characters, who were trying to reach
their ultimate goal - the ninth level of the dungeon.

It was an interesting idea that sadly never seemed to get off of the
ground. I lost contact with the author a couple of years ago, and the
website for the game has been down for about as long (though you can
see an archive of it here, if you wish -
http://web.archive.org/web/20071230172822/http://scruffyco.com/darkestdungeons/
).

Recently an Escapist reader named Dave wrote in to inform me that
there is another RPG that pokes a little fun at the old Chick tract -
a retro-clone fantasy RPG called, coincidentally enough, Dark
Dungeons.

For the benefit of those who may not know: a "retro-clone" RPG is one
developed using the rules of an existing (and usually out-of-print)
RPG, and usually offered for free online as a PDF (or for cost as a
print edition).  This makes the rules accessible to those who would
still like to play the classic RPG, but can't find the original
rulebooks, and it also allows for lots of creative revisions of the
rules.

In this particular case, a devotee of classic RPGs created a retro-
clone based on a well-known fantasy RPG, and named it after the tract
that preached the dangers of roleplaying. Which is the exact sort of
'turning a negative into a positive' philosophy that is strongly
endorsed and encouraged by myself.

The fun doesn't stop with the title, however. The rule examples
feature two players, Marcie and Debbie, and their respective
characters, Black Leaf and Elfstar!

See examples here:
http://www.theescapist.com/darkdungeons-rpg1.jpg
http://www.theescapist.com/darkdungeons-rpg2.jpg

There are no mentions of Miss Frost or the Mind Bondage spell, however
- it seems that the author didn't want to take the joke too far, which
is probably for the best.

Dave, the Escapist reader who brought Dark Dungeons to my attention,
thinks that the popularity of the RPG might actually take Jack Chick's
comic down a notch:

"The game has generated so much interest, in the short time since it
was published, that the offical page is now on the first page of
Google's search results, beating even the Wikipedia article about the
Chick tract. There might even be a day when Dark Dungeons - the game -
is so popular, that the Chick tract is pushed into second place on
Google!

That's a pretty high goal to reach, but I'd love to see it happen.

including how to download or purchase it, at http://darkdungeonsblog.wordpress.com/get-it-now/

[car-pga] Parenting with Role-playing games, from the Blog turned book - Geek Dad

    Greetings All,

For father's day, my terrific girlfriend gave me an excellent book,
initially meant partially as a gag, but really quite wonderful for me
because of the combination of my being a single parent of 3 boys, a
techie, a role playing gamer, running an RPG Research project on the
    therapeutic aspects of role-playing games ( http://www.rpgresearch.com )
and someone slowly working towards degrees in recreation and music
therapies, this book is a wonderful addition.

Originally started by Chris Anderson (Editor in Chief of Wired Magazine)
    as a blog - http://www.wired.com/geekdad/ - (and a great story about his
combining LEGO robotics with Radio Control planes, and GPS, to create a
home made UAV (Unmanned Arial Vehicle) with his kids, and many other
interesting topics, something on the cover immediately caught my
attention, the silhouette of a dragon and a 20 sided die.
The blog, and subsequent book were then handed over to the care of Ken
    Denmead, http://geekdadbook.com/ .

Sure enough, in the table of contents is "Parenting with Role-playing
    games".

All 3 of my boys (10, 12, and 14) are now regular RPGers. Currenty the
eldest is very much into Zombies, and a new RPG based on the TV series
Supernatural. I started them all out 5 years ago with MERP (Middle-earth
Role Playing), and later D&D, and now many others over those years. They
now have groups with their friends at school, in the neighborhood, and
    through camps.

The book proposes using RPG benefits as a merit reward system for daily
life to develop a "character" that is loosely based on themselves.
"Since RPGS are a way for using mathematics and imagination to turn the
life of a created character into a game, why not try applying RPG
    concepts to managing day-to-day life?"

Many of Ken's comments in the early description I found very much
appealing and in agreement with a number of philosophies I have had on
the topics he brings up, though I do disagree with the initial premise
that telling some you play pen and paper RPGs is "one of the geekiest
things you can tell a person", but that's just me, and i also feel that
just further reinforces negative (depending on context) and incorrect
stereo types (though I know many "geeky" RPGers, I know many others who
would not otherwise fit that classification in the rest of their lives
and mannerisms, but many shy away from consideration, due to such
labels. Anyhow, some of the positive statements made....

"I don't think you can overstate the value these games have for
fostering creative play in kids."...."appealed to all the classic geeky
traits, especially depth of knowledge...But the game was also intensely
social, and many of the bonds made over afternoon expeditions to the
Barrier Peaks have lasted a lifetime." I very much agree on that last
    part especially.

...."The best thing, and the thing that separates them from video games,
is that they use the imagination. and they bring people together to
play, face-to-face. Sounds like a perfect thing for GeekDads to do with
    their kids, doesn't it?"

"Beyond just the game play, there are the figures to be painted, the
dice to be collected, and even hundreds of licensed novels to be read
about the worlds the games are set in. RPGs can be a lifelong hobby that
    grows with your kids."

Basically he uses roughly the d20 system and sets up awarding experience
point to the kids for good grades on a test, doing chores well, etc, to
which their character increases in level. As they make levels, they gain
more skill points an feats, and thus the kids get rewards such as (his
suggestions, not mine), an extra hour of TV for the week, or getting to
    use the lawnmower, etc.

Another quote I've said many times myself for years regarding my boys,
and kids in general, "Kids like structure, like having a framework so
that they understand what they need to do to receive certain benefits.
They also like to have goals to work toward to prove they are growing up
and earning new responsibilities. Sounds an awful like what you do with
    a D&D character, huh?"

He continues with his premise: "So, instead of simple chore charts on
the fridge and a weekly allowance, why not turn your kids' duties and
    benefits into a role-playing game?"

He even includes a full character sheet for copying in the back of the
    book!

I have quoted far more than I probably should, but it is getting late,
and I am too weary to paraphrase so much tonight, so pardon the laziness
is so much blatant copying (at least it's fully attributed). ;-)

Anyhow, I have only read a small portion of the book, but have enjoyed
it very much so far. It's fun light-hearted tone, and the many topics
covered are definitely areas I at least can relate to, and see as great
ideas for summer fun with the boys. Hopefully others will check it out,
    and enjoy as much.

I will definitely report on any successes or failures in experimenting
with what he suggests. I will probably have to wait until the school
year resumes to fully realize the benefits of this approach, so will
probably wait until a few weeks into August before beginning. I will
report on my RPG Research project website more detail than here, but
I'll let folks know when there is anything significant to report.

    Cheers!

    [car-pga] Dark Dungeons: The Movie

(Cut and pasted from The Escapist Blog - theescapist.com/blog)

    Boolean Union Studios (
    http://www.boolean-union.com/DarkDungeons/info.html ) is producing a
computer animated version of Dark Dungeons ( http://www.theescapist.com/darkdungeons.htm
), the infamous anti-roleplaying tract published by Chick
    Publications.

My favorite statement from their page:

"A quick survey of the Internet will turn up various parodies of the
tract. Boolean Union Studios' version plays the material relatively
straight, because we think the inherently risible content speaks for
    itself."

There are a couple of preview clips available on the page. Watch them
now, before Chick's lawyers descend (ascend?) and shut the whole thing
    down.
