BAJAJ AUTO LTD- RIDING TOWARDS DARKNESS

BAJAJ AUTO LTD- RIDING TOWARDS DARKNESS

Bajaj Auto Ltd, the second largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in
India, has reported a lower growth compared to its peers. Due to its
production constraints, decreasing brand image, market acceptance, and
inability to achieve target sales, the stock seems to be struggling.

It seems probable that within the next 6 months Bajaj may downgrade to
the 4th position from its second position in the two wheeler segment,
giving way to Honda and TVS Motors to up their positions in the Indian
market.
For the month of November 2010, total sales for Bajaj Auto dropped by
20% to 2.99 lakh units compared to 3.70 lakh units sold in October.
The sales of the two wheeler segment decreased drastically from 3.30
lakh in October 2010 to 2.65 lakh in November 10.
Exports too declined in the monthly as well as yearly period. Total
export for the month of November came in at 90,869 units compared to
98,521 units in the same period last year, reflecting a total decline
of 8%. In October 2010, the exports recorded were 110387 units.
FIERCE COMPETITION
Honda who has newly emerged in the market, is currently producing 1.4
lakh/month and is further increasing its capacity to produce 2 lakh/
month, as it is commencing its second plant in Alwar (Rajasthan). It
is also starting its plant in Hyderabad and Haryana. Suzuki too is in
the process of doubling its capacity.
Hero Honda, the market leader in this sector, is increasing capacity.
Currently it is producing 50 lakh units per year and has set a target
of 56 lakh units per year. TVS too is in the process of increasing its
production capacity. TVS is also launching a new variant in two
wheeler segment, for the rural market, which will be a 3 seater along
with luggage space.
Mahindra, an established auto player has also entered the two and
three wheeler market. It is vigorously trying to make a mark in this
new segment with its strong rural hold (it enjoys a good brand image
because of its tractors) and marketing strategies. They are coming up
with a capacity of 70000 units per month soon.
Currently, there is no information regarding Bajaj increasing its
capacity. They are facing constraints, in selling the units that they
are currently manufacturing. Bajaj is not likely to introduce any of
its new variant in the near future.
In the three wheeler segment, Mahindra and Mahindra, Piaggio and TVS
are capturing market share. TVS is also doubling its capacity in the
three wheelers segment. The Italian based Piaggio is also increasing
its capacity to 40000 per month. This fierce competition in the two
and three wheeler sector is affecting Bajaj's leadership in the
industry.
MARKET RESEARCH ON AUTO SECTOR :-

According to market research performed on consumers, the most
preferred brand of two-wheelers is Honda, followed by Hero Honda, TVS
and then Bajaj.
Bajaj Auto's market share has been decreasing from 35% in 2006 to
17.5% in November 2010. The increasing expansion of competitors and
the decreasing market share signifies its performance in the auto
industry.
On the domestic front, Bajaj Auto sold 1.75 lakh units of two
wheelers. Consolidating the overall two wheelers sold in November 2010
by all the players, we can sum up that 10 lakh units have been sold in
India for this month (Hero Honda- 421366, Bajaj- 175000, TVS- 139541,
Honda- 129627, Suzuki- 25439, Yamaha- 22710 and Mahindra- 15854,
Others like LML, Kinetic, Yo bikes- 70000). This signifies that the
market share of Bajaj is 17.5% in domestic market. Its market share in
2006 was 35 %. In the current scenario, it is further expected to fall
to 15% in the next 6 months and less than 10% in the next two years.
We interacted with Bajaj Auto dealers and they said that Bajaj has
been increasing inventory with their dealers and distributors. Thus
the sales recorded by Bajaj in last 5 months are not consumer sale but
the inventory sale of dealers and distributors. Hero Honda and Honda
have a waiting period ranging from 2- 8 months, whereas Bajaj bikes
are overstocked with the dealers. A dealer's sale ranges from 150- 500
units per month depending on the area, but the inventory stock is
800-2500.

OPM PRESSURES TO INCREASE SEQUENTIALLY:-
Input costs have increased recently following the spurt in steel,
rubber and aluminum prices. Thus, Margins across the Auto sector are
expected to contract sequentially to reflect higher input costs. This
will result in very high operating margin pressures.

VALUATION:-
Considering the fact that the scrip is currently trading at a PE of
over 20x which seems high as the scrip is available at the premium, we
advice investors to stay away from this counter.

2 years ago Bajaj Auto was trading at a price of Rs. 150 (ex-bonus
adjusted). On 25th November, 2010 the stock rose to touch the Rs. 1664
level i.e. more than 1000% increase in price. This is not
fundamentally or technically justified.
Thus studying the fundamental and technical aspect of Bajaj Auto we
recommend a SELL on Bajaj Auto at CMP 1489 with a target of Rs. 1180.

[CAR-PGa] A little something the Chairman sent me.

Hi everyone. Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas and got plenty of
gaming in over the holidays.
Look, I don't know what to make of this letter I got from Paul
Cardwell, so I decided to post it here and let everyone read it---no
editing done, this is just a the way I got it; a simple cut & paste
(which by the way is the extent of my computer graphics knowledge.

It seems Paul thinks I've insulted him and if I did, I apologize. I
read something that I didn't agree with, and I wrote a note basically
saying same. In fact
as I re-read the posts, I find I agree with him on most counts. I
don't think he wants game conventions to get a bad reputation, and
neither do I. We seem (or I thought we seemed) to have othet things
in common as well--like freedom of speech without being bullied.

When I first met Paul, it was by phone, waaay back when D&D was still
owned by TSR and I answered an small ad about CAR-PGa. He was
gracious and informative. He was a Methodist minister, and I grew up
Methodist, so I felt a kinship of sorts. He explained the toils and
troubles CAR-PGa had had with GAMA and some other insider stuff that,
of course, I was completely ignorant of. I thank him for widening my
horizons. Then, about a year later, I made a horrible faux pas. You
know when your sub to the newsletter ends? And Paul puts a check mark
on the back page indicating it was time to renew? Well, I took great
offense at that--somehow thinking it was wrong to assume I was going
to renew, or wrong becuase it seemed rude, or really--I was just an
ass that day. Paul wrote me a note explaining the situation and
offering to NOT use the checkmark method with me again and letting me
know that at one time he thought it would be fun if I lived closer, so
we might game together--but now he had changed his mind. I can't
blame him. As I said--I was an ass, and far from tactful or
considerate. I did apologize, and have tried to send pertinent
material for the archives over the years (though my contributions are
admittedly very slim).
Now that the history lesson is over, recently it has seemed to me that
a lot of this forum has devolced into political discussion and
intrigue that I find....BOOO--RING. If you can figure out the what
the last 3 paragraphs of Paul's missive to me (republicrats, and
Soviet non-people people, and Al Gore) mean, and how they are relevant
to role-playing games, please write me and let me know. I felt the
same way before: there was some discourse a while back about the Boy
Scouts, and I never followed that one into this little niche hobby we
all share. But, I figured--no skin off my nose.

As for Paul's mention that tradition dictates that all posts remain
true to the title, as I said earlier, I'm not a computer person. As I
also said, I'm a freedom person and I don't believe going off an a
tangent in a forum about fantasy games that encourage thinking is
going to cause the world to slip off its axis.

To all of you, a Happy New Year! And now, a few words from the
Chairman:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tact and consideration? Is that what you call an ad hominem
outburst? You have previously asserted your t-totaler status,
therefore how can my comments be directed at you personally?

If there has never been an Animal House game convention (and to my
limited knowledge there has not), does it follow that there can never
be, no matter how the environment is changed? That has always been my
concern, considering that high-priced alcohol has always been
availble, but not free and promoted.

Yes, the "previous letter" was quite innocent and on the general
subject at hand, but you chose to employ the tactics of the schoolyard
and the reprehensible aspects of the recent election and accuse the
opposition of the tactics you are emplying in order to make any
defense against that accusation easily reduced to "you're one too".
Yes it worked quite well in the last election campaign (although not
quite as effective as the Soviet "nonperson" tactic used by
Republicrats against me), but just as that has damaged the country, so
your tactics are damaging CAR-PGa.

second letter

It is the tradition in online discussions to keep to one topic. You
kept to one topic (personal attacks on me) in two postings in the same
day, it shouldn't be too hard to separate two topics into two postings
on the same day. The reason for this is particularly relevant to CAR-
PGa - archival cataloging - as any of the multitudinous professional
librarians and published researchers in the group can explain.
Remember, the Internet was originally set up for communication between
the Pentagon and the various universities they had under contract.
When Congress expanded it to the general public (and Al Gore was
indeed a sponsor of that bill), many of the same academic features
were retained, this being one of them.

As for parsnips, I have not tried them either, connecting them to the
great line from Pogo, "There's nothing worse than unignited love,
'cept maybe coddled parsnips or french-fried watermellon!" And I
would put Andre Segovia or Pepe Romero, or on a different but related
instrument, Ravi Shankar, far above Page and Hendrix.

wheeler segment, for the rural market, which will be a 3 seater along
with luggage space.

[CAR-PGa] P.S.---regarding the tangent thing....

I'm not clear about this one either. I find that if anyone takes the
time to post an opinion here, I applaud them. I do not read it to
make sure all of it (or any of it for that matter) matches the
subject. I can figure out when someone has had a new thought and
wants to get it down quickly, and there's no reason to "make" them
start all over and make a whole new post, or subject, or paragraph, or
sub-subsection, or whatever these things are called. :-) So, if
anyone feels the urge to reply to anything I write, and if you should
get off thye subject of whether the rpg universe is going the he-
double toothpicks, but you want to throw in a bit concerning whether
or not Jimmy Page was INDEED a superior guitarist to Jimi Hendrix, or
if you'd like to offer an excellent recipe for parsnips (I've never
eaten them), please---feel free.

[CAR-PGa] about the alcohol at cons thing...

Because I consider tact and cosideration the two most important human
actions/reactions, I'm sometimes slow to pick up on insults that may
be aimed my directions. Many call it a quaint naievete, and I'm quite
proud to be in that Venn Diagram. But just to be certain---I do not
support a return to some frat-boy style of game con (which by the way,
must predate me, because I've never seen anything remotely resembling
Animal House at a game convention. I also said that I don't drink at
all, so if there weer a ban on alcohol at ORIGINS, DragonCon, or any
of the other cons, it would be no skin off my nose. I go to game cons
to play games, meet people I usually only see a couple of times a
year, etc. And the etc. could include going out for dinner or meeting
in the hotel bar and if my fellow patrons care to drink, it doesn't
bother me.
As I said, the previous letter may have been completely innocuous
and not implying at all that I was somehow pro-booze. But for the
sake of completeness, I am not.
That is all.

[CAR-PGa] Re: Gaming conventions worsening

Interesting how these topics drift off the subject until they are discussing something markedly different from the initial topic.  As long as game conventions have been in hotels, there has been alcohol on site.  However, at least around here cons do not "encourage" drinking, nor, in fact, do the hotels which get this money, at least beyond having it available - and in one venue in the lobby under the grand staircase to the mezzanine where the main con activities are held.  Most cons have now outgrown that particular venue and gone to larger sites.  Many cons have a "no booze in the game rooms" clause in their rules, and the rest do by custom.

Now I realize that cons vary by region.  I also realize that CAR-PGa is an international body and that in some of these cultures alcohol is consumed with meals by all those who have been weaned. This has nothing to do with the original point.

If you go back far enough, you will find that it arose from a report that there was some unstated convention considering featuring unlimited free beer to all over 21 and not noticeably drunk - the sort of thing beer companies claim is the case at spring break towns.  I assume that this convention also has the usual attractions of games, celebrities, dealers' room, and such.  It wasn't mentioned, nor was the name of the con so I could find out for myself.

There were two Supreme Court cases which might involve the missing quote, both were concerned with obscenity.  First was Roth v US  354 US 479, most noted for Justice Potter Stewart's quote that "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."  The court went on to try, restricting it to "prurient interest" and "no socially redeming purpose", as defined by "contemporary community standards."  However, that immediately became whatever the local oligarchy said it was.  This was cleared up by Jacobellis v. Ohio  378 US 184 which defined "community" as the entire United States, and would have probably gone beyond that if not for the limits of their jurisdiction.  The quote involving not restricting adults to that suitable to children came from a concurring opinion in Jacobellis by Justices Brennan and Goldberg.  "State and local authorities might well consider whether their objectives in this area would be better served by laws aimed specifically at preventing distribution of objectionable material to children, rather than at totally prohibiting its dissemination."   It is about bscenity, but might be stretched to include underage drinking.  Still off-topic.

I have this court material at hand because of a run-in I had with the local library before I was able to get my own Internet connection.  I was researching cultures for "anthropological role-playing" (basing characters on actual cultures to bring in all the other cultural baggage from weaponry to how infants were carried).  I think it was Minoan, where the men were topless and the women had necklines below the breasts, which caused it, but I was threatened with banishment for "viewing pornography".  I wrote eight pages of protest and won.  It is available on .pdf to anyone interested.

If one is talking about promoting frat boy game conventions, go ahead.  You will be undermining two decades of work by CAR-PGa in trying to get away from that stereotype and encouraging participation by those outside the stereotype, such as women,  children, ethnic minorities, etc. but you will get your free beer.  If you eat before time, you can even get drunk before being cut off since it slows the absorption of alcohol.  Enjoy.  CAR-PGa will keep picking up the pieces as usual.

[CAR-PGa] the whole alcohol-at-gamecons thing

Most game cons I attend have 2 policies regarding alcohol:
1) They discourage the prcactice of "bringing one's own"; and
2) They encourage purcases from the bar.

I've seen a few--a VERY few--plastered gamers, and yes, they are a
nuisance and, like all drunks, a pain in the ass for those who must
deal with them. For these few, I am in favor of suspending them and/
or banning them from future attendence at the cons they offended.

For the V AST majority of those who can have a game, beer, pretzels,
and conversation simultaneously (that's all you multi-taskers out
there) without barfing on your partners, spilling a Rock 'n Rye on a
fellow gamer's $!00 Die Macher board, or otherwise make a mess, I say
live and let live. There are some cons (oft referred to as juniors)
that cater to minors: I am NOT talking about these.

Most cons I attend, being public, leave it to individual's discretion
as to when and where to drink. But I have been to a couple of
Avaloncons back in the day where drinking in the actual game halls was
prohibited. If you wanted a nip, you had to go to the lounge.
Origins was pretty well wide open---in the bar, in the rooms, in the
halls, bring your own, at the finalists table for the Advanced
Civilization tournament championship. The private con I attend each
year limits drinking to the bar, and that seems to be the best
solution.

But---and this is being written by a tee-totaller---drinking and
gaming are attachjed at the hip and no man shall tear them asunder.
They don't call 'em beer-and-pretzel games for nothin' !

[CAR-PGa] Re: Gaming conventions worsening

> Now, boiled down, the question is how many parents are going to want their kids
> to go to a game convention where one feature is free beer for anyone over 21 and
> not visibly staggering?  Is the answer self-evident or do we have to toss this
> to kids-rpg.com for a formal survey?

Sure, let's do the survey. But after you've asked them if they'd let
their kids to to such a convention, ask the parents if they would let
their kids go to /any/ game convention. Then ask them if they would go
to such a convention themselves, or any convention. Finally, ask them
if, in light of their previous answers, they think that such
conventions ought not to exist.

My point here is, your concept of the underlying question is only true
IF convention features must be judged solely on whether they are going
to keep away kids who otherwise would have attended. There's a nice
Supreme Court quote I'm having trouble tracking down about not
allowing what is suitable for children to determine what is available
to adults, and while they weren't talking about free beer, I think the
idea that we shouldn't let the only conventions available to adults be
the ones that will attract the most kids is a good one.

Besides, I learned this from organizers of a general fandom convention
(including gaming) that attracts thousands every year. Clearly /some/
parents let their kids show up. Mine did, when I was in high school.

In service,
M. Alan Thomas II

What is Google AdSense?

Before getting down to the natty gritty, I want to go over how Google AdSenseworks in case some things are unclear.
Google AdSense is a hybrid of Google: Webmaster advertising program called
AdWords. In a nutshell, Webmasters are paying Google to promote their ads on
Google.com. Every time an ad gets clicked, Google deducts a pre determined
amount from their
advertising budget.

[CAR-PGa] Re: Wikileak "hacktivist" states his alignment

Wrote my own article which references yours:
http://www.examiner.com/rpg-in-national/operation-payback-hactivist-claims-chaotic-good-alignment

One amusing addition (but then, I'm easily amused):

The phrase was lost on the BBC News, who conflated "chaotic good"
alignment with a "big aim" to "create chaotic good." Two very
different things, but then only D&D geeks will know the difference.
