Tata Communications (500483)

CMP: 187
Target: 270 in 6 months

Company description
:

Tata Communications Limited (formerly VSNL) was the monopoly ILD (International Long Distance) voice service provider until March 2002, when it was privatised and the Tata Group picked up a majority stake. The company , along with its subsidiaries is a leading global provider of a new world of communications. With a leadership position in emerging markets, Tata Communications has continued to pioneer innovative products and display leadership across its Enterprise Telecom portfolio. With strong emphasis on innovation in terms of technology, a vertically and horizontally-diverse service portfolio and strong global network, it has succeeded in offering best-in-class products and services together with a compelling value proposition to its Enterprise customers. The Tata Communications global network includes one of the most advanced and largest submarine cable networks and a Tier-1 IP network with connectivity to more than 200 countries and territories across 400 PoPs (Post Office Protocol), as well as nearly 1 million square feet of data centre and collocation space worldwide along with acquisition of Tyco for US$130m in July 2005 and Teleglobe for US$239m. It also has a 10.0% stake in Tata Tele (post equity dilution from the entry of NTT DoCoMo) and 741 acres of surplus land.

Tata Communications' depth and breadth of reach in emerging markets includes leadership in Indian enterprise data services, leadership in global international voice, and strategic investments in South Africa (Neotel), Sri Lanka (Tata Communications Lanka Limited) and Nepal (United Telecom Limited).

 Core business trends are healthy:

a.       Voice Segment- This has been benefitting from a steady volume growth as TCOM has managed to increase its market share as well as rupee depreciation.

b.      Data Segment - Margin in the data business too has held on despite high marketing spend with a rising contribution of higher-margin enterprise segment.

c.       Neotel - South African subsidiary, has seen steadily growing up and has now achieved EBIT breakeven.

d.      Overall biz continues to improve as Shanghai joins Tata Communications' global Telepresence network via partnership with China Mobile and JW Marriott.

Recognition and Awards:

Frost & Sullivan honours Tata Communications  with four awards in the Enterprise Telecom Services category at the 2013 Frost & Sullivan, India, Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Awards and they are for:

  •   Enterprise Data Service Provider of the Year (fifth year in a row)
  •  Hosted Contact Centre Service Provider of the Year (third year in a row)
  •  Third-Party Managed Service Provider of the Year (second year in a row)
  •   Managed Video Conferencing Service Provider of the Year

 Land sale Benefit:

The cabinet has given approval for a land demerger. Four years back company's Land     NAV was at Rs110/share now it has to be at least Rs250/ share due to increase in land valuation.  Unlocking of land will be a key catalyst for Tata Communications, as it not only benefits minority shareholders, but will also give management flexibility to undertake any corporate restructuring (a logical merger with group company TTSL) or raise equity to de-leverage. It could also pave the way for unwinding the residual government stake.

Valuation:

We expect Tata Communications to emerge as one of the biggest beneficiaries of an improving pricing environment given its dominant position in the Telecommunication sector. With company achieving EBIT breakeven in FY13and further capturing value from its existing business (domestic + international + SA subsidiary), surplus land and stake in Tata Teleservices  and also, with India at the cusp of data growth leaving tremendous scope for expansion may result stock price going up by 40%.
We believe the stock at CMP Rs.187 is a good opportunity point as long term drivers are intact with a target price of Rs. 270 in 6 months.

Re: [CAR-PGa] Re: CAR-PGa on Wikipedia

Greetings,

I have referenced CAR-PGa on the wikipedia pages for Merpcon and Tolkienmoot
over the years, but I see the delete in 2007 (by a no-longer existent account
it appears) as being not-notable as such a small club that has not had an
impact.

Are there points of note where the organization members have made a significant
impact on the related topic that could be quoted to point out notability?

I just created a page for WSTRA, and will see if they take the same approach
(hundreds of members related to recreation therapy).

What is the current member count for CAR-PGa?

Thanks!
-Hawke

[CAR-PGa] CAR-PGa members at Dragon*Con

I'm guessing that the only members who have ever met face-to-face are me and David Millians. If any of you will be at the con this year then we have a chance at a small CAR-PGa get-together. I believe that David will be there running games once again. I'll be doing the same thing. Contact us if you can meet up.

[CAR-PGa] Re: CAR-PGa on Wikipedia

It's certainly a difficult question you ask. While we are certainly not a massive organization or active daily, there are Wiki articles for equally small groups and topics. Having a Wikipedia article would certainly help make the group more visible. To my knowledge, there isn't necessarily a reason not to have one.

Although the publications list hasn't been updated recently, it doesn't mean that work isn't being done. I've met with a number of store staff in Canada (almost any time I travel) and speak with them about the organization. I also explain what we do to other gaming colleques when the opportunity arises. Part of it is a lack of available work, and part of it is that we are a volunteer group. I work with another volunteer group, and we practically go silent for a year at a time between the events we promote at.

Like anything though, if we are to make a Wikipedia article, there needs to be something on it. I suspect that the old article had very little information, and that would certainly have to change.

[CAR-PGa] Re: >> for those who might not know <<

It might be the case that some of you have not read the message below. If that is the case, please read it. I have bumped this thread for that purpose.

Some of you on this list might not be aware of the following info so I
thought I'd share.

The Committee for the Advancement of Role-Playing Games is an RPG
advocacy group. Not long ago, this googlegroups email list was created
to further communiction inside and outside of CAR-PGa. However, the
fact that you are on this email list does not make you a member of CAR-
PGa. To become a member of CAR-PGa you must fill out a membership form
and send it to the Chair. This can be done via snail mail or
electronically. There are no monetary dues to join the group. You gain
and maintain membership by getting membership points. Filling out the
membership form earns you 1 point. All points expire one year after
they were earned. There are many ways to earn points( doing research
on one of our projects, writing an article for the newsletter,
donating money to the group, etc).

I should also point out that having a CAR-PGa newsletter subscription
is not the same as being a CAR-PGa member nor is it the same as being
on this email list.

I have some questions for those of you who already knew about the
difference between CAR-PGa membership and email list membership and
have not actually joined CAR-PGa:

Was this an intentional decision to not join the group? If so, why?

Was it merely a case of wanting to join but just never getting around
to doing it?

Was it something else? Please explain.

Your help in answering these questions would be much appreciated.

Ted Skirvin

Re: [CAR-PGa] CAR-PGa on Wikipedia

Just a word of caution: if you're not acquainted with Wikipedia and its ways, this could disappointing. A Wikipedia article for CAR-PGa would need to show the notability of the organization, and be based on reliable and independent sources. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_%28organizations_and_companies%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Third_party

In fact, a CAR-PGa existed, but was deleted. A new attempt would have a hard stand against that backdrop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/CAR-PGa

Instead of its own article, it might be easier to create a new paragraph for CAR-PGa in an existing article, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabletop_role-playing_game or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_role-playing_games (CAR-PGa is mentioned here in a sentence). Bolstered with a few sources (third party, if possible), this might be the best way.

It might be worthwhile to discuss this with other users on the Talk page of the RPG portal first. It doesn't look very active, though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Role-playing_games

To be absolutely honest, I don't see CAR-PGa being notable enough to warrant an article. We're a small bunch of enthusiasts in a niche hobby. Many gamers never heard about CAR-PGa - why should we be notable for the general public? See also my short text in the February '13 newsletter:
"Basically, I'm not sure what to make of CAR-PGa.  On the mailing list [Google.com discussion], there are probably 10 contributing persons.  The homepage claims that "Today, CAR-PGa's primary focus has shifted  from game defense to a study of all aspects of RPGs" - yet the list of scholarly publications seems to have last been updated in 2004.  So, I don't get to see what CAR-PGa has achieved in the area of its primary focus.  Game defense, attacks and court cases still feature prominently on the site.  This may simply be old material that nobody ever had the time to overhaul."

I'm open to be convinced otherwise, of course. Show me independent sources who say CAR-PGa is significant. Also, I'd welcome suggestion how CAR-PGa might increase and realize its potential (and make it visible to the RPG community) - but that is a different topic.
