[CAR-PGa] academic books about RPG

In the last newsletter David Millians indicated he had purchased a
book entitled Gaming as Culture and would write a book review for the
newsletter. I had posted about that book about a year ago in this
email list. I'm impressed that he will take on the task since it is a
collection of essays. Any review would probably be pretty long.

The company that published that book has several others that we should
take note of. If several of you were to read these books and submit
reviews to the newsletter, we'd have plenty of newsletter material for
many months. McFarland is the publisher(www.mcfarlandpub.com). Here
are the other applicable books:

The Functions of Role-Playing Games
by Sarah Lynne Bowman

The Creation of Narrative in Tabletop Role-Playing Games
by Jennifer Grouling Cover

The Fantasy Role-Playing Game
by Daniel Mackay

The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games
by Michael J. Tresca (Hey, wait a minute. That name sound familiar)

We often have a lack of material for the newsletter. This is one way
to help with that problem.
