I love 30 Rock, but that episode was surprisingly negative. Also,
there have been several hints that Liz Lemmon (Tina Fey's character)
was a D&D geek in high school, so I'm not sure why the sudden venom.
I have noticed that this season the episodes have intentionally run
against stereotype -- the show has routinely tried to portray Tina Fey
as revolting even though she's something of a geek goddess on the
Internet.
My guess is the writers (Fey included) don't like being pigeonholed
and they're acting out.
