This is a slight tangent, but in my teens, while practicing in my back
yard and the alley behind my house, a neighbor reported "gang
activity." Three police cars rolled up to find my friend and I
fighting with our homemade boffers, PVC covered in foam and wrapped
with duct tape.

We were lectured, then warned not to "brandish" the weapons in public
and not to stray from the back yard. And we didn't after that.
