When Alan started reacting to the Australian story, I was tempted to say "welcome to the bad old days" but that would have been inaccurate on several points.

First, I doubt Alan is alone in not remembering that time.  Just because we have three members in their '70s, hardly means all members were playing when there was a real, if minor, danger in doing so.

Second, back in the bad old days, the corporate media would be leading the charge, torches flaming and pitchforks brandished.  Note the reaction of the press now: "you have stepped over the line."  Yes Virginia, there is (sometimes) progress, and we have (in this case) made it.

Now I am not advocating sitting back in hopes that it will go away - from experience, I know it won't.  But we have made a difference in the past and we can do so again in the present.  At least this time, we are not alone.

As for psychological support, we still have clinical psychologist Joyce Brothers' defense of D&D back in 1979 when Dieter Shrum was handling PR for TRS and they actually defended their product.  We have the article by Omar Diniz, practicing psychiatrist and CAR-PGa director, on how RPG could be used in prison rehabilitation programs.  And there is much more that touch on the subject incidentally or in passing.  Dissecting out this part is something that will be greatly improved by being able to use standard search systems, even in subjects that copyright laws will restrict us to paraphrasing or the 200 words or 50% limits.
