[CAR-PGa] the whole alcohol-at-gamecons thing

Most game cons I attend have 2 policies regarding alcohol:
1) They discourage the prcactice of "bringing one's own"; and
2) They encourage purcases from the bar.

I've seen a few--a VERY few--plastered gamers, and yes, they are a
nuisance and, like all drunks, a pain in the ass for those who must
deal with them. For these few, I am in favor of suspending them and/
or banning them from future attendence at the cons they offended.

For the V AST majority of those who can have a game, beer, pretzels,
and conversation simultaneously (that's all you multi-taskers out
there) without barfing on your partners, spilling a Rock 'n Rye on a
fellow gamer's $!00 Die Macher board, or otherwise make a mess, I say
live and let live. There are some cons (oft referred to as juniors)
that cater to minors: I am NOT talking about these.

Most cons I attend, being public, leave it to individual's discretion
as to when and where to drink. But I have been to a couple of
Avaloncons back in the day where drinking in the actual game halls was
prohibited. If you wanted a nip, you had to go to the lounge.
Origins was pretty well wide open---in the bar, in the rooms, in the
halls, bring your own, at the finalists table for the Advanced
Civilization tournament championship. The private con I attend each
year limits drinking to the bar, and that seems to be the best
solution.

But---and this is being written by a tee-totaller---drinking and
gaming are attachjed at the hip and no man shall tear them asunder.
They don't call 'em beer-and-pretzel games for nothin' !
