changes, as well as incorporated Paul's feedback. I can post the
completed letter here for completeness if anyone wants.
I just send the letter to the store, and will be following up with
them next week if I do not hear back.
Moving forward, I am going to suggest a more direct approach, such as
taking a deposit, or simply charging for the space. Regarding charges
space, I think that people will be fine paying something like $2 per
event, knowing that this money can go directly towards new tables,
chairs, and repairs (instead of pulling money from the store's profits
and trying to justify repairs, which may happen under the proposed
policy). These, and some other thoughts, give some more measurable
outcomes to the matter than simply forcing people to buy something and
trying to work it out later. Thoughts?
As for the leaf blower thing, it was kind of before my time.
Basically, when Magic the Gathering was released, it became so popular
that it was taking space away from other gamers. Supposedly, there
were so many players that people would just play on the ground at
conventions that did not have enough space. As the story goes, this
annoyed other players so much that people would kick cards out of the
way or bring leaf blowers to clear the path. I have heard accounts
like this a number of times. Myth or not, I'm unsure. It certainly
would be a fun research project for someone.
Anyways, I'll keep everyone posted on what happens
