A great four points. I do have a few additional comments (as usual; everybody groan). I would doubt casting is complete or they would be announcing who. The more probable stage is they are narrowing the list of candidates. There is still a wide gap between final selection and signed contracts, and second or third choices may have to be used. I would hope there would be some physical resemblance between the actors and subjects, because gamers would be a lot more enthusiastic if there were (a consideration in the "recoup the costs" issue).
I would hope, just for the historical record, it that include the ouster from TSR of first Dave Arneson and later Gary Gygax - particularly the positive encouragement of attacks by the victors in that battle (say anything as long as you spell my name correctly - except they didn't even insist on the ampersand). Never mind that customers were getting hurt (sometimes physically, always psychologically) by this "free" publicity.
Good drama requires conflict. This generally hushed up period could provide this conflict, and be true to history. Some of those involved are still at Wizards of the Coast and will try to continue the suppression of the facts, but we owe it to the memory of Dave and Gary to see that it doesn't happen. Otherwise, the film will come across as nothing but a long commercial - and fantasy rather than reality.
