DevOps Engineer Job Description Title Application Engineer Department(s) Application Engineering - Expedia Worldwide Engineering Reports to David Cohen Job summary Automation of monitoring, deployment and operational tasks will be a primary focus in support of a wide variety of applications and platforms at all stages of the SDLC. 
You will work with teams including software Development, Release Management, Operations and Test, embracing a DevOps philosophy to ensure end-to-end solutions are designed and implemented to make deployment and monitoring mechanisms reliable, transparent, scalable and transportable.

Provide proactive engineering deliverables, resulting in products and services with more efficiency and better performance. 
Design, implement, and maintain deployment delivery mechanisms, leveraging innovative programmatic solutions and automation. 
Collaborate directly with Development teams to proactively identify and drive automation of tasks associated with end-to-end delivery and management of software products and production and DR infrastructure. 
Own the application engineering deliverables within a project, such as monitoring and alerting requirements, application architecture design documents, and release and implementation plans. * Develop and demonstrate detailed, proactive ownership for supported systems, including configurations, monitoring and documentation. 
Identify security and performance issues at multiple layers of deployment, from hardware, operating environment, network and application, and provide technical expertise in identifying issues that impact release and service delivery. Take initiative in discovering existing and new challenges pertaining to deployment for our customers, seeking to improve, resolve, and streamline tools and processes to meet delivery challenges. 
Essential Technical Skills and Experience 
Minimum 5 years Application and/or Release Engineering Experience in 24x7 high-availability mixed Linux/Windows production environments * Experience with multi-tiered system operations in high-volume, PCI-compliant transactional environments, including web, application, microservices and database operational support * Experience administering and tuning Tomcat, Apache, Nginx and/or IIS web applications on both Windows and Linux 
 Experience supporting multiple applications and environments in AWS or similar cloud-based hosting 
 Fundamental understanding of Network and Load Balancing technologies * Expertise building, implementing and supporting monitoring tools 
In-depth knowledge of the following technologies and applications: o Python, Perl, PowerShell o Perforce, Git/Github o Jenkins, Chef, Orchestrator o SCOM, Splunk, StatsD, Graphite * Solid understanding of security fundamentals as they pertain to eCommerce application environments * Excellent analytical & troubleshooting skills, as well as innovation and creativity. * Strong written and verbal skills, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from a wide range of job functions 
Familiarity with Agile work-flows and experience tracking work in
